WELCOME TO THE LAND OF MARBLE
'Since the
eve of time, the Balkan's have always been marble's cradle. The first quarries in historic
memory were those of the Aegean and of the Marmara Isle: in fact according to a wide-spread theory, the actual name marble, seems to originate from a mutation of the word Marmara. Therefore, Turkey's traditions in this sector, in addition to those of first manual sawing, that are archeologically documented, are long standing. What is more, the great works of classical antiquity and of the imperial era, clearly highlight the role that marble and stone have played in the Ottoman art and architecture.
